Maui 2024 and Beyond - The Maui Travel Guide Book

I have been working on the second edition of Maui 2021 and Beyond.  I initially titled it Maui 2024 and Beyond but decided to change the year to simply "now".  It took me 3 years to write the 2nd edition and so I don't think it is wise to add the year in the title.

My one word for the year 2024 is DO. Do as in TAKE ACTION.  I did. Now I have to finish it, so I need to do what I can to get it published.

So many ideas and projects, so little time ....

MTC Chicks at Hana Relay 2009

The official result of the Hana Relay Race is now published at the Valley Isle Runner website. We came in at 103 out of 127 groups. Considering that this is a mixed race - some are all men, some are all women and some are mixed; MTC Chicks did well. Now, truth be known, I am the one who slowed down our team. Knock out 30 minutes from our time and that's the time MTC chicks should have finished the race, had they had another team member with the same caliber as they are. I am not telling this to beat myself up, nor to just blame myself for slowing down the team. I am sharing this to highlight the fact that MTC Chicks Team is rad! My teammates were great - very supportive and fun. I am sharing this to highlight the character that our masters and parents at the Maui Taekwondo Center have. All of us did our best on this relay; all of us had fun; we are a TEAM. And despite my weakness, my teammates said nothing but words of encouragement and praise. I got several e-mails from them after the race, saying how they enjoyed the group and that WE should all do it again next year. I love this team (Betty, Mei, Veronica, Jen, Jamila and Krystene). This reinforces one of the many reasons why my son has been going to Maui Taekwondo Center for about 5 years now. The instructors and parents there "walk the talk". They excel in what they do but they are humble about it and they support and mentor those who do not yet have the same abilities they have. This is such a supportive group. And talking about support, Mr. Donald drove all the way to Hana to see us finish the race! And Christine P. was there to cheer us too!

I hope you all enjoyed the slide show above. More photos from the race posted at www.amauiblog.com

P.S. I just saw that my brother wrote a post on his blog about this race. My brother Joseph is such a "big brother" so supportive and loving, isn't he? :)

Aloha Friday: Financial Tip?

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So Kalani thought that on Fridays she would take it easy on posting, too. On her blog she’ll ask a simple question for us to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response. Then if we would like to participate, we can do the same.

I am participating this week. With all the financial turmoil going on ... and the economy not blooming ... my question is "what quick financial tip can you give me? I mean do you have any budget tips or financial tip that you'd like to share?" It does not have to be complicated or long. Just at least one thing to help stretch the budget or earn extra cash :)

For more Aloha Friday Posts, visit Kalani at Island Life.

Certified Mommy Blogger

Both kids are on a sleep over at a friend's house. Hubby is asleep. And what am I doing? You guessed it - I'm blogging! yes, BLOGGING. Oh I just love blogging. Some non-blogger have a hard time understanding this, but a certified mommy blogger like me knows exactly what I mean when I say that blogging is such a cool thing!

The title of this post is kind of deceptive. I am not really going to talk about what it means to be a certified mommy blogger. I just thought that title is cool. The truth is this is going to be another one of those "random post on a lot a stuff in random". Because it's 10 o'clock at night, and my brain does not do coherent at 10PM. I should be sleeping ...

* I ran another 5K today! My 3rd in 2 years :). My 9 year old daughter ran with me. She did the 1 mile fun run. She came in 10th place! Me? Second place ... from the bottom! OK, there were probably about 3 behind me but they all finished about the same time... about 5 minutes after I finished. I'll post more about this later.

* I have 550 e-mails in my in-box that I need to sort. I know.. I should really have either deleted or saved right away, but I procrastinated. Most of these e-mail are from comment moderation. I thought if I leave them there I'd get reminded to get back to these wonderful commenters by e-mailing back or visiting their/your blogs and commenting. Oh well, nice thoughts but didn't work because tomorrow I'd have to delete them. Don't worry, I still am visitng your blogs, just haven't commented on much lately.

* My blog is Buzz Worthy! - Notice the new button on my right sidebar? Some people thought my blog is buzzworthy! I am honored :). More about this later.

* I have 101 things I need to do. But, I am really sleepy already. So, I am going to bed. Good night.

I Surfed! (My Weekly Winner Photos)

Those who know me well would know that this is a big deal. I never thought I'd surf in my whole life - never! I am such a chicken when it comes to swimming, especially in the ocean. I also am very uncoordinated and not sporty. Well, my friend Sol who is a great surfer never gave up on me. She taught me how to surf. And thank to Sol, I did! Here's the proof:

In this first photo, I was quite scared. I was still very hesitant. I thought I would make a fool of myself if I try....

But I tried anyway. This is the first attempt. Not bad...

Getting up... Sol said "look up ... never look down ..."

And up .... I stood! and I tried to balance...

And I surfed! I can't believe it, I surfed!

Thank you Sol! Thank you very much for being such a great surf instructor!

And here's Sol for the "real surf" photo. She's amazing!

She's pretty amazing!

So...these my friends are my WEEKLY WINNERS for this week. For more "winner photos", visit Lotus at Sarcastic Mom Blog.

Deal Or No Deal - Congratulations Brad Falcon - What a Deal!

* NBC / PETER “HOPPER” STONE photo

Did you guys see the Episode of deal or No deal with the Hawaiian Guy? Did you enjoy it? Well, we know the guy, and it's so much fun watching him on TV. He's just a really nice guy to start with. His whole family exudes the aloha spirit. For additional background, check these articles out:

Waikapu man lands $260,000 ’deal’ in TV game show
By KEHAULANI CERIZO, Staff Writer

WAIKAPU – Waikapu resident Brad Falcon saw his win on NBC’s “Deal or No Deal” on Wednesday night as a way to broadcast the aloha spirit for the nation to see.

And earning $260,000 wasn’t too shabby, either.

Falcon, a 37-year-old home remodeler, was the first person from Hawaii to land a spot on the popular NBC game show hosted by Howie Mandel. The game tests the nerve of contestants faced with choices of dollar amounts hidden in briefcases or offers to settle before all the briefcases are opened.

With his emotional highs and lows on display for a national television audience, Falcon ended by choosing a deal of $260,000.

Throwing shaka signs and sending Maui shout outs – especially those aimed at his family – Falcon had the Los Angeles crowd laughing much of the time as he hammed it up onstage.

“I really felt like bringing Hawaii to L.A. is important for everyone to see the aloha, the hugs,” said Falcon. “And I’m getting to bring my friends, my community with me (in representing the islands).”

Meanwhile, a group of about 40 friends and family members watched Falcon’s experience on a projector at his Waikapu Gardens home block party Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m.

“If you know him for even five minutes, you can tell he’s really amazing,” said his former co-worker Yukio Kina of Pukalani during the start of the show. “Regardless of what he walks away with, he’s definitely going to be grateful.” .. Continue reading at Maui News here.

Go Warriors!

I got this photo from Kailani at Island Life. I didn't get a chance to ask permission so I'm putting a link back. This is is for the Warriors, I think it's ok. Go Warriors!

My husband is going to our friend's house to watch the RoseBowl today. This is an exciting day for us - Go Warriors Go!

Read an article about this Sugar Bowl HERE.

UPDATED:

I posted this post this morning. And while doing my daily blog hop, I realized that BooMama posted this a couple of days ago. She'd be cheering for the BullDogs, I'd be cheering for the Warriors. Oh my word!

I am usually not interested in football, but the excitement here on Hawaii (and Hawaiians everywhere) is contagious. I tell you, I might actually watch this whole thing! Exciting!
