A word popped in my head the moment I read Sunday Scribbling's prompt "phenomenon". That word is FACEBOOK. I thought, wouldn't a title "Facebook Phenomenon" be a great title? I googled it to see how "original" I was. DUH!!!!!! There were a lot of articles already titled "Facebook Phenomenon"!
OK, first, there was MySpace, and other blogs. I did not get into the MySpace and I was a bit later jumping into the bandwagon of Bloggers (though I did and still is blogging). So now, Facebook? I heard MySpace is now pace and Facebook is in. One of my blogging acquaintance (RennyB) actually invited me to join Facebook. I appreciated the invite but I still am a bit hesistant. Besides, I really don't have anymore time left for me to be "socializing" on Facebook. I heard it's really cool..I mean REALLY COOL. Maybe when I start earning thousands of dollars on my blog and I can reduce the hours of work I have on my present job - then maybe I'd join facebook....(I can dream about thousands of dollars earning on blog, can't I?)
So now I am very very curious as to how many of you have already jumped into this Facebook bandwagon. Are you part of the Facebook Phenomenon? Fess up people! :)
If you are...what do you think about it?

I just found out about Friendster a few months back, so you can guess who tuned in I am ;-)
i know between little and nothing about facebook... but i do know it is the coming thing... however.. with my blogs and my job... forget about it ....
thanks for this interesting piece on it tho.....
Hi! I first found your blog through the Dog Days of Summer Giveaway and though I'm bummed I didn't win this time, I'll probably be checking back to try to win cool stuff from Hawaii in the future. So I thought if I was going to do that I might as well look around... and Facebook is a topic I am somewhat familiar with.
I first heard about it when it was not open to the general public - or at least that was my impression, as I could be mistaken. When it did open up I was also hesitant to join... another website to keep up with people? Why couldn't we stick with the methods which were already working just fine?
I finally caved in December, after turning down at least one invitation previously, when it seemed like everyone I knew had one and I was missing out when I heard "I posted those photos on Facebook..." or "We were talking about that on our walls..."
I *do* like Facebook. I can still be a part of that public world but yet keep a private profile which only my friends can see. I can easily share photo albums and keep up with photos from my friends. There is a cool message system which is great for even more private conversations - and I take advantage of it because some people keep up with that better than their e-mail. You can post your "status" - i.e. what you are doing at that time. Mine right now says "Erin is being a little productive this afternoon." Even just a quick glance at the status page tells me a smidgeon of what my friends are doing at the exact same time.
So if you ever have time to check it out, I think it's worth it. I haven't found it to be totally addicting as some people have, but I enjoy it as my time allows.
Nice to meet you! :-)
I'd never even heard of facebook until the BBC mentioned it in the news this week. Can't say I'm that interested.
I joined facebook a couple of months ago and have got quite addicted to it since! It seems to be everywhere, literally everyone is talking about it, my work colleagues, people at church, the TV news, bloggers! There's all kind of stories about employers using it to check people out before they hire them or Oxford Uni allegedly used it to discipline some students based on photos and stuff they'd posted. I have my profile set so only friends can see it, but who knows how secure it actually is.
Anyway, I've found many of my friends use it so it's a good way to keep up with people, especially as I've travelled so much and have friends in many different places. I've tried other social networking sites before but facebook is the only one I've stuck with, probably just down to the sheer numbers of people using it.
I had joined friendster long time back but I seldom interacted as much as much as I interact here.
Facebook, I have checked out but I intend to stick with bloggers.
I've heard of it. But I'm committed to the blogging and the writing. That's the best I can carve out for myself each week. Anything else means taking away from hanging with the kids and spouse (and all that entails).
I don't really know anything about it except it's like MySpace? I will stick to blogging- your right, though- who has time for all this socializing!
I'm on Facebook, MySpace and Linkedln but I have no idea why-- some friends invited me and I joined but I don't really use it. As one other commenter said, blogging keeps me busy enough!
As a teacher of middle school age children with five of my own, 2 of them teenagers and 2 approaching teenhood, I have to say I HATE MYSPACE. Now, I was invited to join Facebook, and I did. It's not nearly so... hmmm. What is the word I'm looking for? Well, it's just not so __________. Fill in the blank. I am so NOT addicted to it... yet, but give me time!
Facebook? Oh my, I can only handle one new thing at a time. lol It took forever to figure out my blog. You can make money blogging?
