Sunday Scribbling: Second Chance

When I saw the Sunday Scribbling's Prompt for this week is "Second Chance", I immediately started thinking of some profound life changing experiences that I went through. Maybe I can write something inspirational or motivational. But nothing was coming up. Not that I don't have some "second chance" stories to tell...I do... but I just couldn't get it into a scribble.

Then an idea came upon my head....

I know it's silly,
but not really...
because this is exactly a second chance for me....
I am having an implant, a dental implant
and that's second chance for me!

You see, I grew up in a third world country where dental services is not affordable. ..it's not quite a necessity, it's almost a luxury. Sure we brushed our teeth 3x a day, but our water didn't have fluoride. We never went to the dentist for check-up and cleaning because we didn't have dental insurance and that would cost too much money. We'd rather spend the money on something else, like food or education. We went to the dentist when we have a tooth ache and by then it's almost too late (actually it's just cheape to have it pulled that do other remedies). Some have their teeth in tact - I bet those are the ones who didn't eat as much sweets as I did.

So, when I came here to the land of the abundance (yes, America ...the great American dream) ... I had a second chance on my teeth. Even though I am missing 3 molars, they will now be replaced with a "semi-permanent" teeth through implants. Sure it caused us an arm and a leg, but the fact that we're able to afford it (thank God for that) is such a second chance.

Why is that silly? I think it's wonderful! Your teeth and your smile are getting a second chance. Once again in his own sweet time (which I will never understand, preferring of course MY time, RIGHT NOW!) God has provided you this second chance.

Not silly at all. It's obviously something that's been important to you, even though it's not obvious to many of us.

Implants are wonderful. Don't be nervous about the surgery. I'll keep you in prayer for quick healing.

I think we should get three rounds of teeth rather than two now that we are living so much long. I sure could use a few new ones! Congrats.

Good for you, Liza. I think this is just as profound as any that you will read regarding second chances on SS!

Good for you. I'm sure it will make you feel really good. I have terrible teeth and gums -- genetics at play -- and I've put a lot of effort into making them better because it makes me feel better.

I've been considering implants myself; it wasn't lack of money on my part just me not going for check-ups. I'm looking forward to reading about the difference having them makes in your life. Maybe it will inspire me to get myself to the dentist.
Thanks for a great scribble & good luck,
Frances
