Sunday Scribbling: The Photograph

This photograph was taken during Tatay and Nanay's visit to Maui. The original plan was for them to move to Maui and to stay with us as long as they live. That plan changed; they got homesick. I do not know when they can come visit again because I do not know when we can afford to buy them another round trip ticket to Maui. If we can't buy them a ticket within six (6) months from the time they left, their Immigrant Visa will expire and it will be very hard to get them a visa again. That means it is close to impossible for them to come back to the US. But at this point we really can't afford to buy them a round trip ticket within six months so it looks like this photo with their grandkids here would be the last photo they would have with them here on Maui. Maybe we can someday visit them in the Philippines, but for now I just want to say that this photograph is a very special one. My son made the frame. We will always cherish Tatay and Nanay's visit here.

God will make a way, when there seems to be no way. He works in ways we cannot see, God will make a way for me. (From one of my all-time favorite songs!)

When my grandmother came to live with us from the phillipines, she hated it, but we forced her for five years, because of her health. She stuck to her guns and was so homesick, we were no replacement for her life-the one she wanted to live-in sickness or in health. She did go home and I did see her one last time in her home, in the phillipines.
Beautiful picture.

What a beautiful picture, so full of love.

I too live on the other side of the world from my family and sometimes really struggle with how very far away that is, especially since I had children. Your post makes me realize how very lucky I actually am that we are able to visit a few times a year.

I hope you are somehow able to find a way to buy those tickets after all.

It can be so hard when family live very far apart. I hope whatever happens it is best for all concerned in the end. That's a lovely photo, and the frame is beautiful.

A happy photo - without the story, I would see a family who gathered often and with joy. Good luck to you!
