Fellow Traveler

There was one fellow traveler I can not forget. I was on a plane. The flight is from Honolulu to Maui. It was my first time to fly from Honolulu to Maui. It was the last flight I had to go through on my journey from the Philippines to Maui, to be with my husband...

This English guy sitting next to me asked where I am going and I told him where. We started to converse and I told him my story about getting married in the Philippines with an American who lives on Maui. My husband had to fly back ahead of me because he had to go back to work while I wait for my Visa to get approved. The English man told me about him, his job, and his girlfriend. I remember he told me he has a mango tree in his yard (the house he's renting had a mango tree) and how he's so excited that it's bearing fruit.

I was touched when he offered to carry my "carry on luggage" which was so heavy (I filled it up to the maximum weight allowed). He carried that luggage all the way to the line where I was supposed to be checked by immigration. It was a long walk in that airport but he gladly carried it for me. What a gentleman. I don't remember his name anymore, but i still remember his friendliness, his kind gesture and his English accent :)

Your post reminded of a person I met in the Bangalore Airport. He was staring at me and kept touching his ears. I had noticed it for a while. I was very annoyed. I studiously turned away and went back to my book. After a while I felt someone standing near me and I looked up. It was him. Before I could say anything, he said,"Your right ear stud is loose and is going to fall of any time. I have been trying to tell you this." He was gone in a jiffy.

But for him I would have ended up loosing one of my Platinum studs.

Were you wearing a snorkel mask on your plane ride? Ha ha! That might be fun too. I just wanted to say thank you for your recent comment on my site. I also have a good friend who lived on Maui for some time and I told her about your site. I'm sure she's going to check it out! Have a wonderful weekend!

Indeed a kind gesture! It sounds like a pleasant conversation and a welcome relief from the quiet of solitary travel.

You have a wonderful memory. The only fellow traveller I remember on a plane, I only remember vaguely, and not in a kind way as you do. I enjoyed your post.
