1) Do not overwater. Orchids do not need a lot of water. Once a week you can dip the pot in water for a one minute and that will do it. Or just use water spray to water it. It's better to have less water than too much water.
2) Keep it in the shade. You can put it outside but no direct sunlight please. It does not need a lot of sunlight. It needs a lot of air. If you want, just keep it inside the house (like next to a window).
Those two simple tips will keep your orchid plant alive. The photo here is from an orchid plant that was given to me 3 years ago. That's how I learned my tip - when I did what I shared it, it worked! And this year, they bloomed! I hope I get another orchid plant this mothers' day :)

I have one over my sink, but am afraid it didn't make it through the winter. Probably needs some sun, right?
I hope I get an orchid, too. Maybe I should post it on my blog...? :-)

Liza I have 2 orchids. One I have moved from 2 different homes.
I wondered if they would like this new home.
They do. The oldest plant is 5 years old and has 13 blooms on it.
The plant I bought for this home has 6 blooms.
Like you shared. I water once a week and feed them orchid food. Evidently they like their new location and I think the older has to be repotted in a larger pot.
That's really helpful! Thanks so much.
