Mother's Day Series # 7 - Love You Forever

It was Mother's Day when I first heard of this book. I wasn't a mother then. Our pastor, in celebration of Mother's Day, read this book in church. He was teary eyed by the time he finished reading and I could hear sniffles of moms in the congregation. I thought it was a good book, but a little over the top....

Fast forward to today. Today, I can't finish reading that book without crying. I guess it makes a huge difference that I am now a mom...

A sweet lady from our church gave me a copy of that book as a baby shower gift for my first born. I appreciated the gift a lot, but it was only when my son was in kindergarten that the meaning of this book hit me. My son's teacher read this book in class and when my son came home he asked me to read it to him again (he knew we have a copy of it). When I read it to him that day, I cried. The teacher taught them a song to sing when the lines comes

"I love you forever,
I like you for always,
as long as you're living,
my baby you'll be..."

(Sigh) it's really sweet...

Now that I am doing this Mother's day series, I decided to google this book to find out more about it. I was suprised to find out that Mr. Robert Munsch wrote it for their 2 babies who died. Here's the whole story. In that link you can also hear him read the book and sing the song...

This Mother's Day, my kids and I are going to read this book again...we'll read it together and I am sure I'll cry. (They know I'll cry) :)

I didn't know the background behind that book either. That is enough to make you cry! (and I am a BIG crier)

We actually don't own that book.

Have you read Hug (a sweet picture book) or I Love You As Much? Both are great!!

truly heartwarming, how a father feels for his dead babies. To love forever, is the most ideal thing to do, from father to children.

I remember being so touched after reading it. I then gave it to my father to read and he became overwhelmed with emotion also.
It really tugs at those heartstrings.

i hate to be a 'negative nancy' but i think this book is creepy. i love the beginning, but the mother sneaking over to his house at night when he is a grown man?
And, i think the book is missing a few vital characters...
how about the wife? where did the baby come from? Where is the father? Seems a little obsessed to me.
