Yes, I do enjoy fantasy... it's a feast to our imagination...where our minds can go beyond the real world...to.. where creativity thrives...where passion lives....where stories unfold.
Though I must admit, that for me there is some kind of limit as to what I'd fantasize. My fantasy world must align to my morals...to a certain philosophy which I adhere...(an example of the kind of fantasy that align to what I believe is the "The Chronicles of Narnia".)
Everyone has their own preference as to what fantasy they enjoy the most. As for me and my daughter, we love the world of prince and princesses, of fairies and elves, of animals and flowers talking, of knights, and kings, and queens. My son prefers the stories with dragons and magic swords and all that goes with it.
A song always comes to my mind whenever I hear the word fantasy...so if you'll please excuse me, I will now sing one of my favorite song:
I can show you the world
shining, shimmering, splendid
Tell me princess, now when did
you last let your heart decide ?
I can open your eyes
Take you wonder by wonder
Over, sideways and under
On a magic carpet ride.
A whole new world
A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us no
Or where to go
Or say we're only dreaming
A whole new world
A dazzing place
I never knew
But now from way up here
It's crystal clear that now I'm in a
whole new world with you.
Unbelievable sights
In describable feeling
Soaring, tumbling, free wheeling
Through an endless diamond sky.
A whole new world
A hundred thousand things to see
I'm like a shooting star
I've come so far
I can't go back
to where I used to be.
A whole new world
With new horizons to pursue
I'll chase them anywhere
There's time to spare
Let me share this whole new world with you.
A whole new world
That's where we'll be
A thrilling chase
A wondrous place
For you and me.

I admire that. Nice post
:)
who is the song by? some of the lyrics strike a familiar bell...
I love dragons myself...
One of my favorites as well. :)
Isn't it great how strongly people feel about these stories they hold dear. I loved the Chronicles of Narnia too:) Happy Reading
Oh, Aladdin...that would explain it :)
My daughter has watched it sooooooo many times, and I think it's on a cd she listens to a lot too, I guess the lyrics sunk in as a secondry infection :)
Ah, yes and long before the song, I was enchanted by the fairy tale Aladdin and stories of Scherhazade and 1001 Nights.
Found it interesting to read the differences between what you and your daughter like to read and then your son!
Good post.

I've never seen Aladdin. By the time that movie came out, my kids were past the Disney cartoon age. Pocahantas was the first one we got to miss! :-) (I asked them if they wanted to go and they looked at me as if I was out of my mind.)
The Chronicles of Narnia was probably the first real fantasy book I ever read... one of the all time greats.
I love that song, my 2-year-old niece sings it all the time, pretends that her 2 toy horses are singing it to each other (that's fantasy for you!). Also, the Narnia series is what started my love affair with fantasy literature.
I love that song too.
I can hear it now as a matter of fact.
Thanks for sharing.
hmm. Now the song is in my head. So glad I love it!
;)
ahhhh ... i love that song! fairy tales are a staple in our home :)
Wonderful entry - wasn't Chronicles a beautiful film?
I wish more people paid attention the the imperative that all thought must align to a moral code. We'd be in a much better place!
I really enjoyed the Chronicles of Narnia as a child. Today, in fact, my son was asking me about "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" because we saw the video in the movie rental store.
Perhaps it's time for me to see the film version. Thanks for this.
I say amen to that!
