Is it just me or is this "compulsion" common to bloggers?
I find myself constantly checking my SITEMETER! It's insane! It's almost like an obsession. Not that I can expect a lot of visitors. I am so new at this and I don't have time to learn as much as I need to increase the traffic on my blog. I don't even know how to work this "Technorati" thing. I am not involved with any blog ring and I don't have friends here on Maui or relatives who blog....But I still check on the hour every hour. It's almost embarassing.
Maybe I find some satisfaction in the fact that some people do read my blogs. I get excited when I see that a certian visitor stayed longer than 1 second or visited more than one page. I also am glad when visitors leave comments.
To keep me on track and not get too sidetracked by this sitemeter obsession, I should remember jayred's comment to me in one of my earlier post:
Some people blog to impress; others, to express. I think you belong to the second group. Just blog away according to your heart's intent.
Hopefully, this obsession to check my sitemeter will eventually subside.... hopefully...

I'm sure you'll figure out what works for you. For me, removing it brought a lot of peace. I don't miss it at all. Having the measurement gone, it freed me up to just write. By the way, sometimes I forget that people really do live their every day lives in places like Maui - wow!
Aloha Bev (Blessed Beyond Measure). Thanks for visiting. Yeah, I did take it out once, but later decided to put it back again. Thanks for the encouragement that someday I'll figure out what works fo me. :)
I checked all the time when I first got it. Now I rarely think too and I never check the number. I mostly like to look where I'm getting people coming from. That's interesting. And it's fun to sometimes check what google search got somebody to your place. But, for me, it did definitely tone down.
Thanks for the comment Suzanne. Now that you mentioned it, I realized that's the one thing I always look at (where people are coming from). Also, I love it when I see my brother and sister-in-law on LA logging in and reading my blogs. Yes, I definitely hope it will tone down (I think it will :)
I think, I THINK, the sitemeter obsession will ease itself a little bit as time goes gone. But there should definitely be a sitemeter anonymous website, a support group of sorts!
It gets better. :-) I blog pretty much for myself - it's like the journals I used to write (I type now because I can do that a lot faster than writing and my handwriting is getting messier the older I get). I used to check that Site Meter like crazy, and sometimes I was even disappointed that more people didn't read my blog. Now I still check it once in a while, but mostly because I like to see where people come from. It's fascinating to me, knowing that people from far away places can see what I've written.
Complete and utter compulsion....I need help!!
testing... there's something wrong with my blog. One page is saying I have 1 comment to moderate and then the other page says no comment to moderate. Weird.
