Wise Words

My dear brothers (and sisters),
take note of this:

Everyone should be quick to listen,
slow to speak, and slow to become angry.”
— James 1:19

The other day, Wednesday morning to be exact, my hubby said something to me that annoyed me, irritated me, hurt me, angered me. Immediately a post was composed in my head - mental blogging rushin' in. However, God did not allow me to put those thoughts into this blog. Oh, how I wanted to post. I had in my mind a hundred and one reasons why my hubby should not have said what he said, why what he said is not true, blah, blah, blah.

But I promised myself not to dishonor my husband on this blog. At least not too much ; - only a little vent just like this mini story, to drive my point. What's my point? My point is I am glad I waited... I am glad I did not type and hit publish. I waited until my emotions subsided. I waited until I can post a post like this instead of a rant that would have made you all "dislike" my poor hubby (without him knowing why you hate him). Oh, he's a wonderful man - but he has his weakness (and so do I) (and so do you). What he said probably isn't as bad, but it affected me and since I was mad, it got magnified.

Anyway, back to my point. My point is what the verse above says: we must be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. What I find interesting is that that verse applied to both of us. I could have just pointed my finger to my husband and said "he must be slow to speak" but wait... the verse also said "be slow to anger" and that last line was for me.

Hi, Liza. Before anything else, I'd like to say: "Happy New Year!" (Better late than never.)

I remembered this verse many times while I was away on a seven-week "vacation" in Manila just recently. I'm afraid I was, on many occasions, quick to speak, slow to listen, and quick to become angry while staying with my parents. There were many "volcanic explosions" during trying times.

It's good you didn't blog those delicate stuff about your row with your husband here. It's always wise to protect our fences. The Net is not really a safe place.

Which brings me to this topic: maybe you can create a Multiply or Facebook account. There, you can have a personal journal without worrying if strangers get to read your entries. That is, if you don't have one yet. Just a suggestion.

Excellent post. We all should be responders rather than reactors. Once you publish words in digital format, they stay FOREVER, so it's very wise to calm down!

On another note, glad to meet another Maui blogger. Mahalo for visiting my blog.

So a paraphrase of the verse would be..."My dear blogger, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to type, and slow to press "publish". :)

I'm proud of you, young lady. Often we let our mouths (or fingers) get in front of spirits. And with us men being . . . well, you know . . . you did a great to check in the Holy Spirit.

God bless,

Tim

Very true. Emotions go both ways in a marriage. It is better to allow them to die down and talk to one another when they do.
