Trust His Heart

My mission for this coming weeks is to minister to Emily and her family by maintaining the blog I set up for her. It's interesting how God has given me this "gift of blogging" to be able to minister to my friends who are grieving (the Johnsons) and/or are sick and needing God's healing (Kit and Daniel). Thank you Peggy for doing this Missions 4 Monday Meme and for encouraging me to share this post as my entry for this week. Here's Emily's story:


Our friend Emily was hit by car last Wednesday afternoon. She was in a crosswalk, almost on the sidewalk, when a car suddenly struck her causing her to "fly" 40 to 45 feet unconscious and land on a curb!

One of the first persons on the scene held Emily's hand. She (Ivy) was praying the whole time while trying to keep track of her pulse. That must have saved Emily's life right there. It's a miracle that with that kind of accident she was able to wait for the medics. Ivy's prayers were heard. It was not until later when Ivy found out that Emily belongs to the same church the she goes to. Others may call it co-incidence, I call it divine appointment.

Emily suffered multiple fractures. When she first arrived at the emergency room, the initial prognosis was dim. Her case was called "severe". Her immediate family who are on Maui rushed to the hospital to be on her side. Close friends started coming. Prayers warriors were called all over to pray for her life. Friends from Calvary Chapel, Hope Chapel, and from all over the nation and all over the world started praying. And those prayers were answered. Emily's life was spared.

Now comes the prayers for healing, and for recovery. As I mentioned, Emily suffered multiple fractures, fractured arm, knee, pelvis, and more sensitive are the head fractures - around her left eye and her skull. There was bleeding in the brain, the brain was swollen. The next 72 hours was very crucial. More prayer warriors were called, more prayers were said.

This journey is just beginning. I started a blog "Praying for Emily" to help update the prayer warriors as well as the family and friends far away.

Now comes the question that no one would probably verbalize but some might be thinking "Why God? Why did this happen to Emily? Why are these happening to the Spencer family?" Most of the Spencer family are devoted Christians who are really good people. Why would the God they serve allow this accident to happen? Not only that, another question is "why again?". Emily's brother Josh was in a serious accident about 12 years ago that cause him to be paralyzed. Why does this kind of accident happen to a devoted Christian family twice?

I do not know the answers to my questions. But I do know that the God who allowed this to happen has a plan. In times like this, I always go back to the wise words the 19th century preacher Charles Spurgeon has spoken:

"God is too good to be unkind, too wise to be mistaken, when we cannot trace His hand, we can always trust His heart."

I am trusting God for Emily's situation right now. I don't know why it happened. I do not know what the future holds. But I trust the God who holds her future, God's heart who I know loves Emily more than all of us here on heart can.
