My Two Cents (The Case of Spritzer)

This week we had been inundated by news of Spritzer being caught participating in a high class prostitution ring. I admit, I am one of the millions who followed this news intently. Not that I care about Spritzer, not that I like juicy news or gossips, not that I enjoy seeing a politician's career go down the drain - no it's not those. I think what makes me follow this story is the fact that I know that my husband can be very vulnerable to the same kind of temptation. Heck, I can be vulnerable to the same kind of temptation. All of us are. Not that we can afford a $1,500 an hour night of promiscuity, but a similar sin on a different price level can occur if we are not careful. A Bible verse popped in my head as I was thinking about this:

“Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did. Do not be idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.” We must not indulge in sexual immorality as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in a single day. We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents, nor grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer. Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come. Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall” (1 Corinthians 10:6-12).

I pity Spritzer, I pity his wife, his daughters, his family. I don't know if this marriage will survive. If it does, I will give the credit to his wife.

And then there's Ashley, the call girl, whose My Space had been hit 5 million times this week when it was announced that she's the call girl that Spritzer had been caught with. Instant popularity for her, but not the kind of popularity she would prefer.

And yet another Bible story came to mind. Remember the woman caught in adultery? The people dragged her to Jesus and they want to stone her to death. And what did Jesus say? "Anyone who have not sinned cast the first stone". No none dared throw the first stone.

Ah, we live in a fallen world. This news is not the first, and I bet you dollar to donut, this is not the last.
Therefore, let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.

Sunday Scribblings has a smörgåsbord this week and they allowed us to choose a topic from the 101 topics done before. I chose My Two Cents (as I had been itching to put in my two cents on this issue). For more scribblings, visit Sunday Scribblings.

Not knowing much about this story, I'm not sure I agree that the call-girl wouldn't want that kind of publicity. Unfortunately these days, people want to be talked about at any cost, that's why we hear more and more that there's no good and bad publicity.
Yet politicians aren't allowed to be "human", to make mistakes. As a man there's a lot he can do to make it up to his family but as a politician not so much, the reputation is ruined.
Well, my 2 cents on this too ;)

Talk about publicity, girls from small towns are ready to shed their clothes to get that! And I am talking about India!

The books I would write

Liza--I loved your 2 Cents. That scripture was perfect. Thanks for reminding us to take heed lest we fall. I love the way you think.
Love you, Karen J

I agree - although I was quite cryptic on my own blog, the fact is that my sisters and I were the same age as Eliot's daughter's when we found out my father had been having an affair with a nurse only a few years older than I was at the time.

My concern, therefore, is for the girls, as I've been in their position and did NOT receive the counseling I should have.

Tragic.

Thanks for stopping by, and sorry it took so long for me to moderate comments yesterday!

This is full of wise observations and so well written, I really enjoyed hearing your two cents worth. It's a sad and stupid situation that shouldn't have happened but I suppose these things do. It's his daughters that I feel for, they are always the innocent victims.

It's not an unusual happenstance, I think, and the judgmental stuff shows up all the time whether it's about whose kids eat what for breakfast or who drives what kind of car. We've turned into judges of everyone else's life without that much thought to our own. Nice 2-cents!

This was a good take on the story. Thank you for sharing your 2 Cents. It makes me want to choose another writing prompt so I can express my 2 Cents. I'm so glad that I don't live a life in the public eye. The prompt I chose was "Dear Diary".

I enjoyed reading your two cents on the subject. I hate the smugness many feel at the fall.
