Parenting

Today, Jennifer of Mommy Needs Coffee talked about parenting on her post at Blogher. I was particularly pleased (actually, estatic) to see that she quoted me! Yes, moi! Guys, this is a biggie to me!

Being a mom who works "full time outside our home", I have the tendency to be "insecure" or "neurotic" about my parenting skills. There are so many things that I want to do and should do as a parent that I am not doing or can not get around doing it..and there are many things that I wished I'd done. But the advice that I gave that she quoted is something that I have confidence I am good at and is working well for our family. That one piece of advice is making a difference in the life of my kids, particularly my son with ADHD and Dyslexia.

So what's the advice she quoted? Here it is:

So, what's my "works for me"? I'd say making sure you know what your kids' strengths and weaknesses are. It is important that we look at and treat each child as unique individual. We need to be a talent scout when trying to find what they are good are and what they are gifted at. We need to be sensitive and watchful to see what their weakness and difficulties are. Develop the strengths, remediate the weakness.

Love the photo. Your advice for parenting is good. We should all remember this when we get frustrated with parenting.
